Compute This!

February 16th, 2010

K4 students are going to the CCC computer lab to work on Wednesdays and Thursdays.  Ten students go on Wednesday and ten more go the next day while the other students stay in the class room and do their work.  We have been having fun playing computer games.  The students do not even realize they are learning.  Some of the students are learning for the first time how to manipulate a mouse and keyboard and IT IS FUN!

We are also blessed to have four brand-new labtops for the children to work on in the classroom.  All we need is some software to put on them so that the children can play some learning games.  We can hardly wait.

Just to be Safe

February 1st, 2010

If your child is a bus rider, they will not be let off of the bus unless you come to the door of your home.  The bus driver must see that an adult is home before he can let your child leave the bus.  Please come to the door promptly so the bus driver may finish his route in a timely manner.  Thank you for your attention to this matter.

SCHOOL CLOSINGS

January 18th, 2010

In the event of bad weather, school closings will be reported to local television stations.  Feel free to call me if you have a question.

Return to Sender

January 12th, 2010

K-4 students are bringing home books to read to Mom, Dad, Grandmother, Grandfather, Sister, Brother, the cat, the dog, or whoever will listen to them read.  This is good practice for them as they are going over everyday words which are sight words.  Please be sure that the books are returned to school as soon as they finish reading them as I only have three of each title.  Thanks for your cooperation.  Aren’t your children smart?

The Questions You Always Wanted to Ask

November 10th, 2009

Yes, your child is now bringing home books to read to you or whoever in your household will listen.  The children are reading up a storm in the classroom.  Please encourage your child to practice the everyday words.  The more they are exposed to them, the easier it will be for them to read.  I am amazed at how quickly some of them are sounding out new words.  Learning to read has always been a mystery to me, but that mystery gives me and your child great joy when they come to the realization that they are really reading.

Yes, Pre-k does have homework.  This gives them additional practice with writing skills and reading everyday words (sight words).  I am saving those papers until the end of school when I will send them home.

Box Tops for Education

October 13th, 2009

Don’t forget, every boxtop for Education amounts to ten cents and they do add up quickly.   This money helps us to buy classroom supplies and little extra things for the students.  We appreciate you helping us with this.
